Gonorrhea: Sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhea. Although gonorrhea is known primarily as a sexually transmitted infection (STI), it is not exclusively so, but can also be transmitted to the newborn during the birthing process. The bacterium Neisseria gonorrhea requires very specific conditions to grow and to reproduce. The bacterium can also live in the urethra. Gonorrhea can even exist in the back of the throat (from oral-genital contact) and in the rectum.
Symptoms
Between 30-60% disease are asymptomatic
Burning on urination
Frequent urination
Yellowish vaginal discharge
Redness of the genitals
Swelling of the genitals
Burning or itching of the vaginal area
Urethral pus discharge
Reddened external urethral
In both sexes, disseminated gonococcal infection (DGI) can occur, leading to multiple distant sites of infection which can include the brain, heart and joints.

Consequences:
Without treatment one could develope:
- Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) which could lead to scarring of the fallopian tubes.
- Bleeding between menstrual periods
- Scrotal pain or swelling
- Inflammation of the epididymitis, prostate gland and urethral structure.
